THE WAR STORIES SEMINAR
Course Summary
The course presents and describes the key psychological processes that occur between clients and between clients and professionals during divorce and separation. The course includes case studies and would incorporate any case material volunteered by participants.
Speaker - Avi Shumeli
After qualifying as a clinical psychologist and working in the NHS (Adult Psychiatry and Psychology) for a number of years, Avi moved to Tavistock Relationships where he qualified as a Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and worked as a staff member for 10 years. During this time, he also completed his PhD at University College London and trained and qualified as a Psychoanalyst.
Subsequently Avi ran the MSc in Psychoanalytic Development Psychology at the Anna Freud Centre before moving into full time private practice. At present he also supervises the work of the Divorce and Separation Consultation Service at Tavistock Relationships and is an assessor on the MSc in Psychoanalytic Theory at University College London.
Who is this course for / Who should attend?
The course is suitable for all Family Law professionals. This course in particular is most suitable for small groups of approximately 7-8 people and who know each other reasonably well. Prior to the course, each participant would be required to write up a ‘war story’ which would be available for discussion as part of the course.

Develop ideas about particular vulnerabilities in their own work with clients.
Develop ideas over key psychological processes of the mind and their presence in the particular war story.
